Remember when Cheap Trick was on the show? Conan was given a really cool guitar by Rick Nielsen. Well, here’s a little history/story behind that awesome piece of instrument that I think is worth mentioning.

Adult Swim picks up sitcoms from Conan O’Brien, Rob Corddry

Two very unique comedies will get a time slot on an equally unique cable network.

Conan O’Brien’s “Conaco” production company and actor Rob Corrdry both scored spots on Adult Swim for two new live-action sitcoms.

O’Brien’s company won a spot for Eagleheart, a show about a fading TV star who wins a chance for glory once more on a production in Texas, but constantly clashes with the low-level TV exec in charge of the show.

Corrdry’s medical drama spoof web series Childrens’ Hospital will also go to Adult Swim. The channel will show re-edited versions of the episodes that aired on TheWB.com as well as produce new ones. Corrdry originally pitched the show to Comedy Central, but negotiations broke down with the network, probably because the show didn’t have enough bimbo strippers and shirtless fat guys to fill their quota (cough, Secret Girlfriend, cough).

I’ve just came across this old interview from 1996, conducted by Mandy Stadtmiller, who’s currently an entertainment writer for the New York Post. It’s a fun read and you can find the full, original post here on her blog.

Here’s a little excerpt:

Is it kind of weird having a group of writers write for you when you’re so used to being on the other side of the desk?

Conan: It’s funny but it feels right somehow. (Laughs) I used to always—I used to like 10 years ago, or more than that now, 11 years ago when I was in college, the school newspaper did an article on me because I had edited the Lampoon a couple times, and I was kind of a known guy on campus, so they wrote articles about five or six people that were graduating that year, and one of the articles was on me. And they asked me what I wanted to be doing in 10 years, and I said I want to have—I want to be working on, I want to be the host of the Conan O’Brien Show, and I want my own line of jeans. And that’s from June of 1985, and sometimes I think about that, and I think, you know, I was headed this way for a long—this is what I’ve wanted for a long time, and so yeah, I do pinch myself sometimes (sexy voice) just because it feels good. No, I pinch myself sometimes because I think—you know what I mean? It’s wow, this is—wow, I really have my own sh—you know that kind of thing. But on another level, it’s like I used to—I was talking about who are my writers? I remember talking to a friend of mine in 1984 and saying (spooky dreamy voice), ‘I wonder who will—will you be one of my writers?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll be one of your writers.’ So maybe that’s just incredible arrogance, but I used to think about it a lot.
